’Tis the season to celebrate! From now until 2017, there are non-stop parties, festive cocktails and delicious treats. It’s definitely the most wonderful time of the year. If you’re playing hostess with the mostess this holiday season, here are a few tips to get the party started.

Pick a Location

An office potluck is obviously going to be in an over-sized conference room, and a low-key ugly sweater get-together will likely be held in your friend’s living room. However, holiday parties can also be a great excuse to get dressed up and go out for a night on the town.

Bricco’s private dining room offers seating for up to 36 guests and cocktail and hors d’oeuvres service for up to 45 guests. For more intimate affairs, our Table at Bricco can host up to 14 guests. Fill out our online form to schedule your event, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Plan Ahead

The first order of business when planning a party is to get your guest list set. Remember that you’re probably competing with a number of other obligations this time of year, so the earlier you can send out your invites, the better.

Don’t forget to include attire requests, whether guests should bring a dessert to share and if there will be a white elephant gift exchange. Once you have your headcount set, you can easily plan for how much food and booze you’ll need for the evening.

Set Your Menu

If you don’t want to spend your whole party in the kitchen, keep things simple. Plan make-ahead dishes, stock up on slow-cooker recipes and consider catering options. Bricco offers a variety of appetizers, side dishes, main courses and desserts for delivery or pick up.

Signature cocktails can also be a great way to keep things simple — and costs down — for your home bar. For this time of year, we love bright red Pomegranate Martinis, seasonal takes on sangria and boozy eggnog. You can also pick a red wine, white wine and an assortment of craft beers to avoid multi-ingredient spirits.

Set the Tone

Since your home is likely already decorated for the holidays, there’s no need to go over the top. A trimmed tree, white lights and garland on the fireplace mantle are all you need to say it’s party time.

If you’re hosting a New Year’s Eve soiree, a little extra sparkle and touches of gold should do the trick to bring the space into 2017. We tend to rely on Spotify playlists to supply the soundtrack for the evening. This Christmas in Hollis roundup covers all the bases, from “N*SYNC to Nat King Cole to RUN-DMC” — love it!
