Holiday Potluck on Your Calendar? Here’s What to Bring!
We love eating our way through the holiday season as much as the next person. But potlucks can quickly go off the rails if you feel like you’re in “Groundhog Day,” noshing on the same menu over and over again.
If you still have a holiday potluck or two on your December calendar, here are a few ideas for what to whip up to make everyone merry.
The Lighter Side
While cheese, carbs and sweets are always a hit this time of year, we occasionally like to bring something on the healthier side to the table. Party-goers love loading up on veggies to balance out their bad decisions, and those who are watching their waistline always appreciate a few good options.
But skimping on calories doesn’t mean you have to lose any flavor! We’re big fans of this Fresh Citrus and Cranberry Salad and putting a twist on a classic Caprese Salad. Chili is always a crowd pleaser too, and we’re firm believers that you can never go wrong with lasagna. Both of these recipes are packed with veggies, and they’re slow-cooker friendly.
All About Apps
Holiday potlucks are an hors d’oeuvres lover’s dream! With party-goers expecting tons of finger foods for snacking, this is the place to flex your culinary skills.
When it comes to appetizers, we like to go for unexpected ingredients. These addicting peanut chicken skewers get a burst of heat with chili mayonnaise. We also love to update classic holiday staples, like shrimp. This recipe is bright and fresh with mango, ginger and cilantro.
There’s something about the holidays that makes people crave dips! Luckily, the options are endless, and range from the sweet to the savory. Of course, there are the classics like Spinach, Buffalo Chicken and Crab Dip. But we like to push the envelope from time to time with out-of-the-box dip ideas.
Apple Pie Caramel Dip will satisfy most any sweet tooth, while this Asiago Cheese Dip is a fun spin on classic queso. The current favorite around our holiday table? New Orleans Barbecue Shrimp Dip — yum!
‘Tis the season for Christmas cookie platters, but every potluck could use a bit of variety, right? We love adding something savory to the dessert spread with a Baked Brie served with honey and sliced apples. But we also enjoy sweets, too! Opt for the natural sweetness of fruit with a Blueberry Cobbler. Or, you can bring pretzel sticks, marshmallows and pound cake to serve alongside Slow Cooker Chocolate Fondue.
