There’s lots to celebrate this summer as the Class of 2016 dons their caps and gowns to receive their diplomas. If you have a special teen in your life, you might be looking for ways to make their graduation party stand out from the crowd. Here are a few of our favorite tips for hosting a great backyard soiree!

Display Your Drinks

Let’s face it. While coolers get the job done, they’re pretty ugly to have at your graduation party. Instead, dial up the decorations by displaying beverages in a fun themed drink station area with glass dispensers, mason jars, and lots of straws. You can decorate water bottles with free printable labels or add tiny graduation caps to your soda.

Say Cheese

Celebrate your graduate with a look through the years. You can hang twine behind your buffet table and use labeled clothes pins to display photos of her in each grade or you can do a unique photo display near the card table to show off photos of the graduate and a few of her favorite things. Guests will love the personalized décor!

Creative Centerpieces

If professional centerpieces aren’t in the budget for your backyard graduation party, you might need to get creative. Mason jars filled with inexpensive stems in your child’s school colors can pop with the addition of pennants, votive candles, and even books – check out this pin for inspiration!

Décor that Pops

Balloons are an inexpensive way to decorate for your party and add tons of color! You can display 2016 behind the buffet table with giant helium-filled gold foil number balloons, use balloons to create unique centerpieces or float them in your pool as another way to display your child’s school colors.

Strike a Pose

Photo booths are a great way to make sure you capture pictures of everyone at your party. You can make an inexpensive backdrop by hanging a clothesline between two trees or using PVC pipes. As an alternative, you can also make a personalized frame out of poster board. Graduation-themed props are key to encouraging silliness.

Let the Games Begin

Graduation parties bring together people from all stages of your child’s life. Get your party guests to break out of their shell and interact with people they might not know with the addition of yard games.
